Congratulations to former lab member Ali Liang, who is now an Assistant Professor for Digital Bioinorganic Chemistry at Universität Zürich.  She reports that she is excited to see what this new challenge brings!

Former lab member Mikael Minier was recently named the winner of the chemistry category of Science Magazine's 13th annual Dance Your Ph.D. contest, landing him a nice story on the Department of Chemistry web site.  Click the image below to view his amazing video.  Mik is currently employed as a software engineer at WaveXR in Los Angeles.

80+ former members of the lab celebrated Steve's 80th birthday a day early at a Zoom event (of course!) organized by Chuan He.  One of the highlights was provided by Seth Cohen, who delivered a cake in person to Steve at his apartment in DC.  That was followed by a rendition of Happy Birthday that can best be described as asynchronous.  Happy 80th, Steve!

Former postdoc Amit Vernekar reports that he has moved on from BITS Pilani to join the CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, India, as a Scientist.  The CSIR is among the world's largest publicly-funded R&D organizations.

Former Lippard Lab member Kogularamanan "Rama" Suntharalingam reports that he is now an Associate Professor in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Leicester.  In other news, Rama and wife Verity are expecting another daughter in mid-October.

Former lab member Suzanne Bruhn continues to be a mover and shaker in the biotech business world.  She was recently named president and CEO of Proclara Biosciences, a Cambridge-based company working to develop novel therapies for proteopathies such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.

The final edition of the Lippard Group Newsletter has been published.  It includes Steve's announcement that he plans to retire from MIT at the end of the summer of 2017.


Samuel Awuah has accepted a position as an assistant professor in the departments of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Kentucky.  His appointment begins Spring, 2017.


The lab returned to the Vineyard in the summer of 2016 for a clam bakc!


The 2016 ACS Award For Affordable Green Chemistry goes to Shannon S. Stahl and the 2016 ACS Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award to Seth M. Cohen, both former Lippard Lab postdocs.  Congrats!


Congratulations to Dr. Gilles Berger, who joined the Lippard Lab as both a 2015 Fulbright Scholar and a 2015 Belgian American Educational Foundation Fellow.

Congratulations to former Lippard Lab member Kogularamanan "Rama" Suntharalingam!  Dr. Suntharalingam, whose achievement has been recognized by the Royal Society of Chemistry, is the Leverhulme Research Fellow in Bioinorganic Chemistry at King's College London.


Congratulations to former Lippard Lab member Yuji Mikata, who was recently promoted to full professor by Japan's Nara Women’s University.


Congratulations to former lab member Dong Wang, who was recently promoted to associate professor with tenure by University of California, San Diego.  Prof. Wang earned his Ph.D. in 2004 at MIT under the direction of Prof. Lippard.


Professor Lippard was named the 2015 recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Chemistry.  This prestigious award recognizes and honors Prof. Lippard's pioneering research on the role of metal atoms in biology and medicine, including the study of platinum anticancer drugs and of the structure and function of an enzyme that allows microbes to live on natural gas.


On January 13, 2015, the lab celebrated the nine countries represented among the graduate students and postdocs with a pot-luck supper held in the Noyes Room.


The Lippard Lab observed the summer of 2014 with a trip to Martha's Vineyard.

Professor Lippard presented the 42nd Annual James R. Killian, Jr., Faculty Achievement Award Lecture on April 1, 2014.  Video of the talk is available.


Professor Lippard was named as the 2014 Priestley MedalalistC&EN featured a "Trailblazer and Mentor" cover story on Prof. Lippard's career and published his full acceptance address.

Congratulations to former Lippard Lab member Suzanne Bruhn!  Dr. Bruhn has been included by Mass High Tech in their "Women to Watch 2013" list.  She serves as President and CEO of Promedior, a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering the development of targeted therapeutics to treat diseases involving fibrosis.  She earned her Ph.D. at MIT in 1992 under the direction of Prof. Lippard.  Dr. Bruhen has been profiled by Boston Business Journal.


Congratulations to Wen Chyan!  He has been selected to receive MIT's 2013 Department of Chemistry Inorganic Chemistry Award for outstanding achievement in inorganic chemistry.  Wen has been doing undergraduate research in the Lippard lab since 2011.

Congratulations to Ali Liang, who has been selected to receive a 2013 Graduate Women of Excellence award from MIT's Office of the Dean for Graduate Education.


Congratulations to former Lippard Lab member William M. Davis.  Dr. Davis was recently appointed Director of Physical Evidence at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  He earned his Ph.D. in 1984 at Columbia University under the direction of Prof. Lippard.


Congratulations to former Lippard Lab member Matthew Sazinsky, who was recently granted tenure by Pomona College!  Prof. Sazinsky earned his Ph.D. in 2004 at MIT under the direction of Prof. Lippard.


Congratulations to former Lippard Lab member Jeremy J. Kodanko, who recently received tenure at Wayne State University!  Prof. Kodanko was an NIH postdoctoral fellow at MIT under the direction of Prof. Lippard from 2003-2006.


Congratulations to former Lippard Lab member John F. Hartwig, who was recently elected to the National Academy of Sciences!  Prof. Hartwig was an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellow at MIT under the direction of Prof. Lippard from 1990-1992.


Congratulations Prof. Lippard!  Steve received the inaugural 2012 Christopher J. Frederickson Prize from the International Society for Zinc Biology.  He received this prize jointly with collaborator Dr. James O. McNamara from Duke University.


Congratulations Justin J. Wilson, recipient of the 2011 IPMI Metalor Technologies Graduate Student Award!


Prof. Lippard was recently interviewed for the 50th Anniversary of the journal Inorganic Chemistry!


Congratulations to former Lippard Lab member Professor Kathy Franz, who recently received tenure at Duke University.  She received her Ph.D. from MIT under the direction of Prof. Lippard in 2000.

On August 23, 2010 Prof. Lippard was awarded the "Cold Iron Award" in recognition of more than 40 years of inspiring, promoting, and encouraging women in chemistry.  Over 80 women have either received a Ph.D. or worked as postdoctoral or visiting scientists in the Lippard lab.


Professor Lippard is now a grandfather!


Professor Lippard has been awarded the 2010 Ronald Beslow Award for Achievement in Biomimetic Chemistry.  Congrats!


Congratulations Professor Lippard, recipient of the 2009 Linus Pauling Medal!  You are in good company.
