Amy is the Weinberg Family Distinguished Professor of Life Sciences and Professor of Molecular Biosciences and Chemistry at Northwestern University.

Former lab member Suzanne Bruhn continues to be a mover and shaker in the biotech business world.  She was recently named president and CEO of Proclara Biosciences, a Cambridge-based company working to develop novel therapies for proteopathies such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.

Congratulations to Prof. Lippard, who will receive the 2017 American Institute of Chemists Gold Medal on Heritage Day in May.  The award recognizes exemplary service to the science of chemistry and the profession of chemistry or chemical engineering in the United States.

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences has announced that Jeremy Berg and former Lippard Lab postdoc Christopher Chang are among the 228 members of its class of 2017 fellows and foreign honorary members.

Congrats to Tim Johnstone, who recently accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at UC Santa Cruz.  He plans to make the transition from Canada to California in July of 2018.

Melissa has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Houston. Her appointment will begin Fall 2017. Congrats!

Steve and the group attendees of the 2017 Metals in Biology Gordon Conference in Ventura, CA on January 25.

The last and final edition of the Lippard Group Newsletter can be found here. Steve announces that he plans to go emeritus at the end of the summer of 2017. 


Samuel accepted a position as an assistant professor in the departments of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Kentucky. The appointment begins Spring 2017.

We look forward to reading his science in the near future, congrats Sam!

Dr. Sabine Becker is awarded the Leopoldina Postdoc Scholarship, awarded by the Leopoldina  - Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften in Germany.

Dr. Suntharalingam is the Leverhulme Research Fellow in Bioinorganic Chemistry at King's College London.

Dr. Suntharalingam's achivement has been recognized by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

2015 Recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Chemistry

This prestigious award recognizes and honors Prof. Lippard's pioneering research on the role of metal atoms in biology and medicine, including the study of platinum anticancer drugs and of the structure and function of an enzyme that allows microbes to live on natural gas.

Congratulations to former Lippard Lab member Dr. Suzanne Bruhn!

Dr. Bruhn has been included by Mass High Tech in their "Women to Watch 2013" list. Dr. Bruhn is President and CEO of Promedior, a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering the development of targeted therapeutics to treat diseases involving fibrosis. She earned her PhD at MIT in 1992 under the direction of Prof. Lippard.

Wen has been selected to receive the 2013 Department of Chemistry Inorganic Chemistry Award for outstanding achievement in inorganic chemistry. Wen has been doing undergraduate research in the Lippard lab since 2011.

Dr. Davis was recently appointed Director of Physical Evidence at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

He earned his PhD in 1984 at Columbia University under the direction of Prof. Lippard.

Prof. Sazinsky received tenure for his position at Pomona College.

He earned his PhD in 2004 at MIT under the direction of Prof. Lippard.

Prof. Lippard received the inaugural Christopher J. Frederickson Prize for Research in the Neurobiology of Zinc from the International Society for Zinc Biology. He received this prize jointly with our collaborator Dr. James O. McNamara from Duke University.

Prof. Franz just recently received tenure for her position at Duke University.

She received her Ph.D. from MIT under the direction of Prof. Lippard in 2000.

On August 23, 2010 Prof. Lippard was awarded the "Cold Iron Award" in recognition of more than 40 years of inspiring, promoting, and encouraging women in chemistry.

Over 80 women have either received a PhD or worked as postdoctoral or visiting scientists in the Lippard lab.
